Eat Eat

Today's brooch proves wrong the rule against wearing silver and gold together. No markings on this little tree.

We have a teenager. To celebrate we bought him some Cubs related items. * When I asked what cake he wanted, Danny replied, "A turkey." I decided to do a before and after.  This is the before... ...and this is the after. these were the easiest cakes I ever made as cutting the shapes was straightforward and I didn't need to decorate and corresponding iced cookies. The cranberries on the roast are candied cherries and you can just see a few buttercream roasted potatoes on the other side. Turkey themed birthday party? I went ahead and made the turkey loaf-I will not  be partaking. Danny is genuinely interested in turkeys from an ornithological standpoint, and it should be noted you will never see a turkey that looks like the one on the left in the wild. If you do...run!  Today I have a cluster of trees. Large tree in the centre is Tancer, tree on the right bottom is Gerry's. My favourite of the group is the small tree on the upper right.

Vintage, Unsigned, No idea when it is from. It has a 60's feel to me, but that's not based on anything other than gut-feeling. Great colour on this one-I do love green.

For me? Oh, you shouldn't  have. Vintage, no markings. Heavy little brooch with nice details.

* A quick update on Danny. We had some good news on the nut allergy front. Although his scratch tests were positive, his blood workup came back negative-completely negative. That can happen where people get false-positives to scratch tests but turn out to be non allergic. We scheduled a food challenge for next week where they feed you small bits of nut butter to see if there is a reaction. We've had to take Danny off his antihistamines for a few weeks for all these tests and predictably, he's had a bout of allergy induced asthma. Our crazy warm weather isn't helping with all the moulds floating about. I'll call the allergist tomorrow to see if we should forge ahead, or put him back on the meds and hope for freezing cold and snow to try again later. Still, having the negative bloodwork is very good news. It isn't so much a matter of being able to eat nuts, but rather knowing he won't die if he gets one accidentally. Can't do a feature on Christmas brooches without a poinsettia. This enamel one isn't terribly old, as evidenced by the near-perfect condition. I remember buying it retail but I am at a loss for when or where. 80's? 90s? All one blur I'm afraid. I have matching earrings somewhere but haven't been able to lay my hands on them (of course I can't find them-they will turn up in June!) but I suppose that's typical. No markings on this one.
