Oh Magoo, You've Done it Again!

Image
I didn't put it together when I purchased the new frames, but after wearing them a bit it became obvious... That's O.K. I do have a bit of a bumbling streak, and I can't see much of anything without specs. That's how life is-you go for fashionable, and end up with Mr. Magoo. I'm seeing much better now. Hopefully, this will help with the headaches brought on by eye strain. The frames are quite light which is a good thing as the lenses are not. I can't believe how bloody heavy they are. Still, compared to my old frames they are a joy to wear and likely won't freeze my face in the cold. I knew my vision had worsened but I wasn't aware just how severely until I put on the new prescription. Yikes. Lesson learned-get an eye exam every year.  I'm pleased that the frames are so large I can quit tweezing my eyebrows if I wish, as no one can see them. Unfortunately, you have a now perfect anti-glare-line-free look at my eyes and my cack-handed approach to app...

Don't Like the Weather, Wait a Minute, etc. etc.

I thought you might be getting sick of all the neutrals, so I dug out this bright green polyester horror of a bridesmaid's   dress. Can you believe the sleeves have been altered (by the last owner) and were even wider at one point judging by the amount of fabric still inside?! I own a similar dress in pink with sheer sleeves which you can see in the sidebar. Our weather is changing as you can see by these scattered rose petals. A few more windy days and most of the trees will be bare. We have hard frosts expected later in the week, so I'll be gathering the last of the green tomatoes and pickling the smallest ones. The cooler weather is also bringing on kiddo's mould allergies (all those damp leaves growing spores) and we've been back in the allergic asthma cycle. He's okay, (frustrated, but okay) but we've been having some very late nights and two AM nebuliser treatments. I'm thankful for the portable machine so he can be treated at home rather than the hosp...

Rocktober Rose

Image
Yeah, yeah, I'm wearing brown again...but this time I've accented with rose. That's radical for me, so take a good look as it isn't likely to happen again. I don't know why I don't wear this combination more often, as it seems to work okay.  I ran across my shadow at the park. Hi shadow!  Oh shadow, that really isn't very polite!  Well, never mind her, she's obviously having a bad day. I like this park, there's so mushroom to play. You can groan at that one if you like. You're not actually groaning, are you?! I had lost my bracelet in the park, but returning the following day, I found it! Then, I promptly lost a brooch. I haven't found that unfortunately. The Fuzzy-Headed Twitcher found a rare bird (for our area) earlier this week. He's seen it twice since, but was only able to get one not-great photo. We're still waiting to see what the e-Bird people have to say. He's excited anyway, but we've been spending an awful lot of t...

True Vintage-70's Knits and Suede

Image
Whoa, it got cold!  I've already needed my coat in the early mornings and evenings, but I'm still making due with cardigans in the daytime. This one is a heavy, acrylic beast. A cardigan with pockets? Be still my heart. I'm always tempted to belt this one, but in the end I never do. I had to be outdoors quite a bit today, but I kept nice and warm and had a place to shove my hands when they started turning blue. The skirt has pockets as well, but they're not deep. I found the vintage space-dyed cowl-neck at Goodwill on a rack of similar, modern tops. I suppose the neck caught my eye as vintage being thicker than what you'd see made today, but there was also something about the quality of the yarn. Today's knits look fuzzy after a few washes, where the lines on this were still sharp. The top hadn't been stretched out of shape either-a dead giveaway it was vintage. A quick look inside at the woven label confirmed it. I had several tops like this when they were ...

Recent Treasures

I've been shopping. I found these four beautiful Springerle  moulds by Laxa at Thrift World-all four set me back ten dollars. I thought that was pretty good shopping (just the heart lists for $75.00) until I found... ...antique Minton. This one set me back $2.99 but it sells online for $275.00!  The fact that it not only survived without any chips, but ended up in a Goodwill in Ralston, Nebraska is nothing short of incredible.  I like covered dishes, but I might hesitate to use this one now that I know a bit about it. Yikes. So that was fun. I did find some lower-end pottery as well...  I do love a bit of California Pottery. I already had the peach tray, so I had to buy the strawberries. This set me back $4.00, but I'm not complaing. I use my California pottery pieces. Let's pause for a butterfly break. We saw both of these at Wherespan lake on Friday. It was a beautiful day. The Fuzzy Headed Twitcher found some sort of unusual sparrow, so he was happy. He's be...
