Rejection-Praying Mantis Edition

Image
"Hey there good-lookin', do you have plans tonight?" "Bugger off." "Hey, wait-up, I just want to..." "I said, bugger off!" "Hey! OWWW!" " Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody..." I saw all this take place in the space of a few seconds. Clearly, the praying mantis wasn't in the mood to be bothered, and wasted no time ridding itself of the er...pest.  It was interesting how the rejected mantis ran off into the grass as the other stood in the centre of the sidewalk undisturbed by the foot traffic of students from the college. I know the praying mantis is no lightweight-Youtube is full of videos showing how they can sneak up a hummingbird feeder and grab dinner, but I never saw one in a fight like this. You can learn so much about nature just by looking around. Here, I'm noticing a yellow jacket wasp that thankfully was more interested in the flowers than me. They get aggressive this time of year as the fl...

Got You Under My Heels

I caved, and bought the shoes. It isn't every day you find squirrel shoes, you know! It is difficult to see in the photos, but their bellies have a fuzzy fabric. The knit acorns are detachable. I wore them out today and heard quite a lot of, "Oh my god that lady has squirrels on her shoes!" One woman requested a photo. I have some nice shoes, but no one has ever asked for a photo of them. I knew such special shoes would require a nicer-than-typical dress. This wild 60's number was begging to be worn.  The dress is a shiny, textured nylon material that was popular when I was a child. I bought the dress with the original tags from Goldblatt's on it. I had to laugh at that as I wouldn't have been caught dead near Goldblatt's when I was young (it was chea...

Paris When it Drizzles

Image
Yes, I own a Guerlain umbrella. I've had it since the early 90's, and it is showing wear but I'll never part with it. I found this Paris print novelty skirt recently for a dollar. It is early 2000's and made of a very thin cotton. As it was cold and windy today, I decided to employ a pair of, "Pervert-Proof-Panties".  I've stopped caring what the neighbours might think of my antics.  What's a little side-eye, anyway?  Outfit Particulars: Bandolino skirt-Thrift World Vintage Jantzen wool sweater-Thrift World Belt-Goodwill Vintage handbag-can't remember (had it at least 25 years) Shoes-Goodwill Bakelite bangles-all over Bakelite brooch-Goodwill Earrings-New Life Thrift Fragrance-Guerlain Parure The skirt was fun to wear, once. I'm not in love with the pleats, and it really is a bit big, so it has already migrated to the "Donate" bag in the front hall. When it is full, we'll drop the items at Hand-Me-Ups and with any luck, Thrift-Sho...
