Thank you all for your kind words for Danny. He's very excited and relieved to start a new chapter in his life. Coming at his 13th birthday, and the new year, the timing was perfect. I've been blogging so long (since 2004) many of you have watched him grow up. As far as I'm concerned, you're family.  Thank you again for being such a great group of people. What have we here? An outfit post? My goodness, I nearly forgot how to do one. sorry about that-got hectic around here in December. I've worn these Star Wars leggings on the blog before. For some reason, I always pair them with a sequin mini dress. I don't know what that says about me that I own several sequined mini dresses, but eh, at least I'm not hard to find in a crowd. This was last year. The leggings are too big/baggy, but I don't care-I love them.  This time around I wore a gold and silver flapper-like dress and an oversized 80's jacket. We had a flock of starlings visit our feeders this wee...

A Sparkling Blue Dress to Match the Sky

Don't let the blue skies fool you-it was freezing out there! Still, the moulds and ragweed are dying, which is very good news for anyone with allergies. The spiderweb leggings made their yearly debut.  I was up early  baking the Barmbracks for Halloween. I made four-one for us, and three for my husband's office. Danny decorated some cookies shaped as pumpkins, cats, etc. and I'll probably make popcorn balls sometime before Tuesday. I stopped by Penzy's to replenish the baking spices before the holidays start. The fair used up most of my cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice/ginger. It definitely pays to buy in bulk if you bake a lot, which we do. I'm lacto-fermenting some of the green cherry tomatoes from the end of the garden, and so far, so good. I pickled the nasturtium seeds, and made more spaghetti sauce for the freezer from the ripe tomatoes. I have a few quarts of green ones left that are destined for relish-then, I'm done. i do feel like it was a great accomplishmen...

...Unicorn leggings. As you do. You know things are serious when I'm wearing unicorn leggings. Under a tenner at Target. Hard to photograph because...unicorns. *Shrugs* Danny's been posting these status updates in the kitchen. I suspect he has one for, "Everybody PANIC!" Hopefully we won't get there. This is the bad week, but it is all over by Sunday night. I don't see the note for, "Send mum for a spa-day." Oh well, perhaps it is in September. Banana Split Cake cooling. It will eventually be iced. Basically, a banana pound cake with a layer of strawberry, and a ring of chocolate (not visible from outside). I wouldn't let him bake the, "Tunnel of Fudge" because well, Fudge Tunnel . I know, the cake came first, but still .  Today was also rye breads, oatmeal breads, the cake layers for the gold cake and devil's food cake, and a banana bread. I learned a good trick that is proving useful. To soften biscuits like lebkuchen, or to keep ...
