All the 80's Looks in One Hideous Jacket

Image
The Jaeger jacket gets the yearly wear. I own three, but this one is by far the strangest. The crazy, long lapels, the goofy shoulder pads, the pockets so low you'd need absurdly long arms to reach them. This jacket is every bad idea from the 80's rolled into one. I'd never part with it! The skirt is equally bonkers. Prince of Wales check and gingham in alternating panels. The fabric is a very stiff cotton that would be best used for upholstering outdoor furniture, and the heavy, industrial zipper better suited to a duffel bag. The length is quirky too. There's a very old label in it, in Hebrew. It looks like something put together in a home ec class on a kibbutz. Needless to say, I've been wearing it because I like oddly constructed clothing. I just wish I knew the story behind it.  The socks are of course the Ouija patterned ones I bought at the Halloween shop. They're quite tight on me. I have, thanks to all the running larger-than-typical calves. Most days I...

Rocktober Rose

Image
Yeah, yeah, I'm wearing brown again...but this time I've accented with rose. That's radical for me, so take a good look as it isn't likely to happen again. I don't know why I don't wear this combination more often, as it seems to work okay.  I ran across my shadow at the park. Hi shadow!  Oh shadow, that really isn't very polite!  Well, never mind her, she's obviously having a bad day. I like this park, there's so mushroom to play. You can groan at that one if you like. You're not actually groaning, are you?! I had lost my bracelet in the park, but returning the following day, I found it! Then, I promptly lost a brooch. I haven't found that unfortunately. The Fuzzy-Headed Twitcher found a rare bird (for our area) earlier this week. He's seen it twice since, but was only able to get one not-great photo. We're still waiting to see what the e-Bird people have to say. He's excited anyway, but we've been spending an awful lot of t...

Favourite Autumn Blouses

Image
It must be Autumn if the KoKoKnits blouse is making an appearance.  Nothing says, "Autumn" like a brown, leaf print fabric. The brown pleated skirt is also seeing a first wear since last winter. I haven't properly started unpacking cool weather clothes as we can continue to get warm days well into October, but a few pieces were within easy reach. My sense is we're in for an early winter, but I'm basing that on worsening arthritis symptoms, and my fingers and toes turning blue. You may prefer meteorological data. This brown and blue check polyester jacket was purchased a few years ago, but rarely worn. It has a pleat at the back giving it a swing effect, but for some reason, I don't like it on me. It isn't too big or small, and the sleeves seem okay, but for some reason I feel like I'm wearing my grandmother's 70's slipcovers when I try this jacket on.  It might look better with a pair of denim flares. This time of year I'm cobbling together...

A Week of Terrible Photos (but interesting stuff)

Image
Making my way through the World Market on my way to the rear of the store where they keep the beer, I spotted this coffa-like bag . I rarely buy handbags (or much of anything else) new, but it was the only one, and I wanted it. Forty dollars later, it was mine. I think I will remove the pom poms and give it a proper makeover with gold braid and some fringe-but not until the end of summer. I rather like the casual look of the pom poms. So that was my extravagant purchase of the summer-not too bad.  A somewhat less extravagant purchase was this vintage wood brooch. I know we still have a short time until autumn leaves are an appropriate accessory, but I couldn't resist giving it a wear on an unseasonably cool day earlier this week.   Pardon the mirror selfie. The skirt and top are both true vintage, and I'm sorry I didn't get better photos. Sometimes the Universe conspires against you.  Outdoors photos weren't much better. Eh, whatever.   Here's a look I don'...
