Another Snowless Week in Omaha

I must say, I've enjoyed looking at the beautiful snowy scenes from the American south and across the Atlantic in Europe. I don't exactly envy it, as I know we'll have our own soon enough, but I can't help thinking these outfit posts would look better with a bit of snow. We've been warm, we've been cold...sort of like me since the onset of menopause??.

Apologies for the phone-camera photos. I need to get more comfortable with the new camera before I use it for blog photos. Meantime, enjoy my blurry face-I know I do (wrinkles show less)!
 I know for a fact this outfit would look better with snow, but there wasn't any. Instead, we went to the semi-abandoned mall in Council Bluffs, Iowa to use their shitty decorations as backdrops. I say, "Shitty Decorations" in the very best, semi-abandoned mall kind of way.
You have no idea what kind of looks you get walking around a semi-abandoned mall in Council Bluffs dressed like a cross between Cookie Monster and a disco queen.
This would be the disco  queen part. I've had this jumpsuit for a while, but only now got around to wearing it. I bought a similar one with a silver and black animal print that I'll probably save for some other inappropriate occasion-Easter perhaps?

My new barware is getting plenty of use. This is a gingerale, brandy, and lemon juice cocktail.
Recently discovered this ginger beer-quite nice, with a strong ginger flavour. What I wouldn't give to win the 7 night get away to Jamaica. Unfortunately, the contest is for UK residents. Bummer. Good ginger beer though.
 Went to the DeSoto wildlife refuge on Sunday. It was a beautiful day, and there were loads of geese, ducks, and swans to see. There were plenty of bald eagles flying about as well. I love going to DeSoto. I always meet the nicest people, and come away feeling like there's still something to live for. The feeling typically fades as soon as we leave, but for a few hours, the world seems like a better place. It is a wildlife refuge, but it is a bit of a human refuge too, in the emotional sense.
 There's always one person that can't disconnect, and has to bring their tablet along. Hrumph. We should have left him there??
The light has such a wonderful quality this time of year.
This sweater is the one I most wish I had snow for. Reindeer in knit scarves sort of demand a snowy winter scene, don't you think? I had to make do with 50+ mph winds today, and you'd better believe I wore my "Pervert-proof-panties" beneath that skirt.
I adore the goofiness of this cardigan. What you can't see well in the photo are the pom-pom noses on the reindeer. I'm wearing reindeer earrings as well.

Favourite Autumn Blouses

It must be Autumn if the KoKoKnits blouse is making an appearance.  Nothing says, "Autumn" like a brown, leaf print fabric. The brown pleated skirt is also seeing a first wear since last winter. I haven't properly started unpacking cool weather clothes as we can continue to get warm days well into October, but a few pieces were within easy reach. My sense is we're in for an early winter, but I'm basing that on worsening arthritis symptoms, and my fingers and toes turning blue. You may prefer meteorological data. This brown and blue check polyester jacket was purchased a few years ago, but rarely worn. It has a pleat at the back giving it a swing effect, but for some reason, I don't like it on me. It isn't too big or small, and the sleeves seem okay, but for some reason I feel like I'm wearing my grandmother's 70's slipcovers when I try this jacket on.  It might look better with a pair of denim flares. Happy Purim

The holiday of  Purim  begins tonight at sundown. I dug out this old photograph of my friend Myra (on the right) and myself at the age of four both dressed as Queen Esther. What doesn't show in the photograph is how beautiful the costume was. Mum made it entirely by hand, sewing sequin bows along the hem of the skirt, and using silver ric-rack to trim the poncho. I loved it so much I continued wearing the skirt as a poncho for years and then dressing a large teddy bear in it when it would no longer go over my head. I don't know what eventually became of it, but I've had a soft spot for blue satin and sequins ever since. And tiaras?? I baked Hamantaschen  this year using a new recipe. The filling is an orange/honey/poppy seed mixture, but the dough has both butter and sour cream. The pastry is yeast-risen, yet it maintains the texture of a rich cake.  Recipe Here . Wayne, Nebraska Chicken Show 2017-and a giveaway

We have a new National Cluck-Off Champion in the 13 and under category. First prize was $100.00 which isn't er... chicken feed. The local news  has some video of Danny with the winner in the adult competition. Joel is a legend, and he was extremely kind and encouraging to Danny. Actually, the whole family are nice. They're the sort of people you wouldn't mind having for neighbours and you'd never need to explain why your child is crowing like a rooster at the top of his lungs! Anyway, the pep-talk Joel gave Danny was greatly appreciated. We had such a great time-completely worth the two hour drive to Wayne!  That's my little chicken. I'm a proud mother hen today. I still go to hold his hand, but I have (almost) a teenager and he isn't going to hold my hand. I like how he's just looking at me holding my arm out to him.
